Area Rugs: Good and Bad

Filed Under: home decor    by: admin

I’ve learned my lessons about area rugs. Owning a dog is why I first bought one. I bought dark carpets, thinking they would hide the dirt better. This was wrong. Navy, dark blue, and even black area rugs show dirt more than lighter colored ones like tan, cream or beige – especially if they don’t have a pattern. I also tried buying colors like red and purple. This didn’t work either. I bought my first mat at Pier One and it was ruined in about a month. So, I decided to move on to something less expensive.

I started buying rugs at discount stores like Ross, Marshalls, and T.J. Maxx. This way I’m not buying cheap area rugs that ruin and tear up quickly, but I’m getting good quality pieces for not as much money. It all depends on why you’re buying this type of flooring. If it’s just for looks, it could be a great idea, but bear in mind that dark colors, surprisingly, do not necessarily hide dirt and cheap rugs do not handle high traffic.
